The Coach's a World Traveler.

He'll be in Nicaragua until the 24th, and out of touch while there.

Sorry to any of you looking to keep tabs on his workouts.

Ah, home.

Been lounging around the house since I got home yesterday...

just got in a pretty solid workout, lots of plyos and other exercises to get the blood flowing. I'll probably get a weight workout in later in the week.

Ankle's feeling better. Swelling's gone down, though it's still a bit painful at the right (wrong?) angles. Ibuprofen, and compressing via wrapping a bandanna around the ankle help a lot, it's already gotten a lot better, I was pretty fine playing schtick night before last.

The Next Fisty?

An interesting point about having no nickname...

Is William S.J. McCarthy the next Fisty P. Hingham?

Discuss.

Asthma in the House

Well, the cold isn't terribly kind on my bronchi. Just put in about 4 hilly miles on snow-dusted trails in Pine Park. My lungs have seen happier days. Nice to get back running a bit this week, though. Hoping to work a lift in tomorrow - been surprised at how busy I'm staying this week (with Novack and Nicaragua prep), despite being done. Hardly even feels like a relief.
Probably won't be able to make it into Leverone til Wednesday or so - working 6pm-3am at Novack pretty much every night.

Need sleep.

Flatland Freezer V

That's the name of the tournament I was at this weekend in McPherson, Kansas, one of the few places I've seen that's more in the middle of nowhere than Oklahoma. I went as extra legs and experience for OU's B-team, the Babboons of Wrath. I think there were two other people there of 13 who had A-team ultimate experience, and they spent most of their time on the sidelines freezing their asses off while I was playing and freezing my ass off with 6 guys who each had barely 2 months experience. It was cold, possibly colder than Hanover, 30 yesterday, 25 today, with 20mph winds yesterday.

So I ended up playing handler basically every point the whole weekend. I would say it was a good experience, but no one had any throws in that wind. By the end of the day I was managing to complete most of my throws and not drop anything, but that's because I never threw it more than 10 yards. We ended up going 1-4, beating a team of high school kids who would make zargham look tall and one of whom told me "that was a pretty desparate throw" after I nearly completed a 30 yard upwind hammer for a score. Like anyone else was cutting. Overall I am pretty happy with my handling, there were times when I really had the offense running well, but there were other hell points where I probably pulled a hat trick times 2. My cutting was decent, I think, and of course my defense needs a lot of work, especially man where I had a tendency to shut down my man the whole point only to loose concentration for a few seconds and let him get open. Essentially I need my field sense back.

Highlights include a zone D point where I won a dollar for getting a layout D. I used it buy chicken nuggets at Wendys. I also managed to hold up Dartmouth's rage reputation by participating and placing 4th on the team in what OU called the "comsumer challenge".

All in all a great weekend of ultimate.

Boo lower extremities.

Yeah, so when I went out to Leverone yesterday I had a minor ankle-rolling incident where I went up for a disc behind one Lamar and both failed in my attempt (it was half-assed at best) and landed with my left foot at an awkward angle on his heel/foot/something, resulting in a roll.

My participation in the dump drill clinic mostly consisted of sitting around, hobbling to the bathroom to run cold water over my swelling ankle, and a little bit of tossing on the side, taking special precaution against pivoting too hard.

It's still a bit swollen today, though I daresay with a bit of R.I.C.E. (that's Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate, four tenets of injury treatment/recovery) it's already improved substantially. Thankfully I don't really have anything to do for a while, and I'll have plenty of time over break to rest/rehab so I'm set to go come winter.

In other news...I have no other news. My life revolves around ultimate, currently. Do you find that pitiable?

til freedom. My fingers will be getting a strength workout today. Also, 30 hours at Novack in the next three nights - come find me, I'll be the catatonic one trying to keep his eyes open.
