Ice-frisbee

So much for playing ultimate today. The field was almost one big sheet of ice, and during the first point I fell and landed on my knees and hands. Now I'm at home icing some purple knees and a jammed left thumb (a particular problem if you're a lefty). It'll be fine, but driving home was a challenge since I can't push with my right leg, which made it very hard to break, and i can't use my left hand to steer. I'm sure it'll all be fine in a few days, hopefully in time for a fartlick tuesday before going up to school.

Lesson 1: I guess there's a reason fields are closed in the winter.
Lesson 2: You're better off wearing sneakers than cleats if you're playing on ice, or even really frozen ground.
Lesson 3: Walking up stairs without using one knee is not something you should try.

tangerines

I just ate one - they're really good.
Well, I've been exercsing every day for the past week and a half and will finish it up before school. For christmas we went and stayed with my mom in Little Rock and it was 60 degrees there, I was able to go for 3 mile runs or so in shorts - amazing. But now i'm back in Chicago, freezing my butt off, and so I've been swimming laps in the pool. But anyways, five days left until we head back - crazy. Have a good one guys, enjoy yourselves.

Wow

I went for a 4-mile fartlick run today (alternate jogging and sprinting). I really need to work on my endurance, because it took way too long between the sprints for me to recover, and i had to do the jogging too slowly. It's funny how different the muscle soreness is from a longer run. I think I'll do a three-mile one on Sunday. We're also having an ultimate game on Saturday with my friends from home, so that'll be a lot of fun if we get enough people. It's never a problem in the fall, but finding people willing to play when it's 40F and there's snow on the field...it's a little harder. But I'll run to the field and mark up on some highschool track guys to get the best workout from it.

Things I haven't been doing: Lifting and tossing. I have excuses (lack of a gym and working during all daylight hours) but they're not that good. At this point though, I'm just going to try and get in one or two more workouts before going back to school Tuesday and then get into a good routine once I'm there, especially with lifting. Might need some help from you guys with that one!

updates from last week

Coach Z, 12/24:
"ultimate has been the last thing on my mind for the last two weeks. Just got back to campus from Nicaragua last night and will be sitting all day today in the manchester airport...sooo much blitzing to do...
knowing me, you know that i could easily send a three-page blitz to you about how this trip changed my life and how that justifies my inactivity during the last two weeks (though i did run a couple times and swim in a poo-infested river a couple times).

if you do want to hear more, just holla at me.

sorry for the extra sets if you did them for me. i haven't seen a computer nor a weight room in two weeks, so fuel-cell activity has been understandably limited. will get back on the ball over the week and a half. promise."

Downtown, 12/23:
"lifted yesterday, day 2, didn't pick up extra cause i forgot to

will lift day 3 today or tomorrow. Been doing 2 lifts a week. Been playing lots of pickup for cardio stuff. At pickup i've been playing alright, except that I didn't kick the confidence thing.. made like a couple drops I should've caught. However I've thrown less turnovers."

Socks, 12/23:
"if you want to work on your mark, either wear socks on tile floor or put shoes on and go and ice, and practice shuffling back and forth. this will tell you where you're off balance.

i've been working out. if you want to hear about what i did, blitz me and i'll tell you. otherwise i'll leave the rest of you to assume it was more or less the same thing [as before]"

Sunshine, 12/21:
"so work today was really tiring for my upper body and back, and my last workout was more core and less leg strength, so i did a leg strength workout today, sans equipment since i have none, and i picked up for one since that seems to have been the trend.

rocket jumps, lunges, harvard two steps, toe raises and toe presses, leg lifts, and tried some hindu squats out"

Holiday update

well, it would appear that Mr. Leach has little to no self control or self discipline when not facing the wrath of Liz middleton. My workouts have been sparse to non-existant.

On the plus side, I've been loading a bunch of sweet-ass music onto my iTunes in anticipation of loading it onto my iPod. Basically burned every one of my dad's CD's and like 75% of mine. On another note, according to VH1, NWA's classic LP, "Straight Outta Compton" is one of the top 100 albums of all time...i think #62. That CD is loaded onto my computer, and i will be thugging out to it over the course of the next 6 months...of that, you can be assured.

hello no pants! So my break has been pretty good so far. In terms of working out I'd say I've been doing an ok job. For the 2-3 weeks when I was home id say i went to the gym about 4-5 times a week. My shin splints have been pretty bad so i haven't been running so much. I'd usually bike or eliptical for 40-50 minutes. besides that ive been trying to do some ab work everyday. and during the transit strike in nyc i was walking 4-6 miles a day (if that counts for anything). now im away with my family and away from a gym but ive tossed with my dad a bit, have been hiking for 2-3 hours a day and doing abs. but i actually got pretty sick yesterday so im guessing im going to be taking it easy for the next few days. when i get back to the city ill try to run again and see how my shin splints hold up. other than that im excited to get back to school. see you all soon!

I Shall Return (about, ummm.... now)

So this is my final post of christmas break as tomorrow my girlfriend is flying out to see me and help drive my Jeep back to cold and goddammit it better be snowy Hanover. I will be seeing everyone on the 4th for what I assume will be the first day of conditioning.

So the past week I went running 3 times on my hill route, making pretty good time. I'm starting to feel in a bit better shape and I don't think eating nonstop for the entire christmas holiday hurt me too much. We'll see how I do sitting on my ass in a car for multiple days as I chug soft drinks and eat value meals treats me. I've also been playing a decent amount of basketball as well as doing a couple hours of yardyard a day for the last week or so. Stupid bark beetles killing all of our trees. Tomorrow for the first time in a couple weeks I'll get some throwing in as well, which I'm looking forward to.

I got disc 4 for christmas, and have already watched it almost twice. It's pretty good. Seigs shows up a ton, and I think I may have even seen lil liz on the sidelines of the finals.

I'll see you all soon

I didn't...

...get anything ultimate-related for Christmas, save travel stuff for those weekends away, as my family is incapable of simply googling titles and items mentioned on my christmas list.

I did, however, get a shitton of cold, hard, cash, as my list was otherwise short, and my extended family is large and generous, so I expect I'll get a good bit of ordering/shopping in before I return to Dear Old Dartmouth.

Been keeping up the same general workouts as previously stated; I do a full workout MTThF, with T and F being lower/upper body lifts, respectively, and M and Th being weightless full-body workouts. Saturday I do a lighter workout with only a few exercises just to get the blood flowing.

I've been feeling a lot stronger, which is a good sign. Still haven't dared to try running again yet, on account of the fact that my ankle started acting up when I was simply walking through the mall doing last-minute shopping a few days ago, and also because it's usually below freezing outside. I want to get new running shoes anyways, so I may wait a few more days until I can get out to Dick's Sporting Goods to use my gift card(s) before I go out for a run.

SWEET

Hey whats up fellow no-pantsers?
Got back from skiing about 2 days ago...really messed up from all the travel. I went to switerland, which is crazy and far away, but it snowed for 3 days straight, so no complaints. As to previous posts, I really tried to treat skiing as a workout for frisbee. (it may or may not have worked.)
So, christmas. I got disc 4 and other ultimate related videos, trying to watch and maybe learn, but the big deal for me was my new kilt. as we are sans pantalons i think ya'll would would appreciate this:
yes, huzzah for my man skirt...that is technically the national irish tartan, but its just genrally sweet. Happy holidays to all! I'm gonna go workout...or watch movies...same thing right?
